The first time I met Braelyn I asked her who her favorite superhero was. With a big grin she immediately replied, "my mommy!" With tears in her eyes, Braelyn's mom was speechless, to her, Braelyn is the real superhero!
On September 16, 2013, Braelyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia ("ALL") the most common form of childhood cancer. ALL is essentially a mutated malignant white blood cell that crowds out the productive, good blood cells in your blood and bone marrow. It quickly spreads to other organs and can be fatal within a few weeks if not treated. At 3 years old Braelyn has already faced down our human mortality with superhero courage and strength. She doesn't seem to mope around the house feeling sorry for herself either. Something I guarantee I would be doing if I were diagnosed with cancer! But for her cute bald head, you would have no idea she was a very sick little girl!
This image is just a sneak peek at Braelyn's photo-shoot, with many more images and photo shoots to come. Most of the images will only be available in a photo-book that will come out hopefully later this year. Most of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go directly to help in the fight against childhood cancer. This book will contain high quality, fine art images depicting amazing kids who have been diagnosed with cancer, living out their respective dreams. Some want to be superheroes, some princesses, or fairies and some want to ride on dragons, but in the end, they all want to beat cancer. Please check back as I will continue to update this blog on the progress of this book and share tidbits about each child's amazing story! Thank you for reading!
