While I am not a 49ers fan, I was intrigued by Candlestick Park ("the Stick" as it is affectionately called by the fans) and its storied history! This is Roger and he is the grounds keeper for the Stick, that up until recently was the home of the San Francisco 49ers! Roger has worked there for over 30 years and was the guy that helped me get into the stadium to take some pictures for my project. Unfortunately, the stick is scheduled to be torn down sometime this year. I couldn't help but feel a sense of loss as a piece of history will be wiped from this planet all in the name of progress. Yes this building looks like it hasn't had a single update since the 60's. Yes it is completely falling apart from rust and the elements. But, the Beatles held their last concert, ever, in this stadium. Some of the greatest football plays ever played happened at the Stick. I mean, they still mark where "the Catch" took place on the field. Google it! They say you shouldn't hold onto the past, but I think that rule has some exceptions. I am grateful for the time I was able to spend there, it was my first time, it was brief and it will be my last time.
A lame poster circa 1994??!! Lone worker! Another weird poster, yay classy fans!
The exact location of the "Catch" I was told the field still had a lot of the paint left showing, apparently I was told wrong! Oh well, nothing that Photoshop can't fix!
